The documentary film ‘In Our Lifetime’ premiered with great success on 20 September 2023 at the Arts Picturehouse in Cambridge, attended by LML members.

As outlined by the Kavli Centre for Ethics, Science and the Public:

"In September 2022, 21 people from across the UK spent a week together in Wellcome Connecting Science, Hinxton just outside Cambridge. Their backgrounds, opinions, and stories were wildly different. But they all had lived experience of serious inherited health conditions – as patients, as carriers, or as carers. Together they became the UK’s first Citizens' Jury on Human Embryo Editing, tasked with writing policy recommendations on whether (or not!) the UK government should consider changing the law to allow certain serious genetic conditions to be ‘edited out’ of a family tree forever."

The stars of the documentary, the jurors, were present at the film screening and the audience was invited to consider if and how patients can impact legislation that affects individual families with inherited disease. The Citizens’ Jury was commissioned by Professor Anna Middleton, Director of the Kavli Centre.

LML congratulates all involved in the film on a thoroughly entertaining and intellectually provocative event.
