We are delighted to announce the inaugural Bill Cornish Scholar, Zihan Ni, who has embarked on a PhD focusing on 'Reforming the Anglo-American pharmaceutical patent law in the age of AI.' This scholarship is made possible through the generous contributions to the Bill Cornish Memorial Fund, established in memory of Professor Bill Cornish.
Professor Cornish, a pioneering figure in intellectual property law, left an indelible mark on the field through his extensive work and dedication. The Memorial Fund, initiated by Professor Lionel Bently, aims to support postgraduate students in intellectual property law, ensuring that Professor Cornish's legacy continues to inspire future generations.
Lovedy Cornish, who has been instrumental in supporting the Fund, recently met with Zihan Ni. Their conversation highlighted the profound impact of the scholarship on Zihan's academic journey and the ongoing importance of fostering research in intellectual property law.
“Because my research is interdisciplinary, I was fortunate that Professor Liddell can provide guidance. I feel that my project has interesting potential around enabling the collection of as much data as possible—for example, clinical trial data and patient health records—so advanced algorithms can be used.
Receiving the Bill Cornish Scholarship is both an honour and a profound encouragement for my academic aspirations! I am truly grateful for this opportunity, and it was my great pleasure to meet Mrs Cornish and express my sincerest thanks."
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to the Bill Cornish Memorial Fund.
Congratulations Zihan!
