Pharmaceutical law governs the research, development, manufacturing, distribution, and marketing of pharmaceutical products, including medicines. It involves detailed regulations on drug approvals, patents, pricing and reimbursement, marketing and advertising restrictions, and drug safety monitoring. Medical device law and in vitro diagnostic law cover similar topics for medical devices and diagnostics.

These areas of law seek to balance the interests of public health, innovation, market competition, patient access and consumer protection. These areas of law are integral in ensuring that innovative medical science products are safe, effective, and available to those who need them and that generics also get to market.
