Matthew Leitch, a final year Cambridge undergraduate student, has been awarded the  'Hempsons Prize for Law, Medicine, and Life Sciences.' The award recognises the student who achieves the best first-class result in either LLM Paper 1 (Law, Medicine and Life Sciences) or the Tripos Law Seminar 50E (Law and Ethics of Medicine).

The Hempsons Prize is supported by Hempsons LLP, a top-rated national law firm, which specialises in health and social care law, crime, and charity law. Their commitment to delivering specialized legal services for their clients in the public and private sectors has made them a key partner for over 180 organizations in the NHS, numerous private healthcare providers, and a vast array of charitable and not-for-profit organizations.

The Hempsons Prize represents the synergy between excellence in legal education and the progressive legal services. It reinforces the dedication of Hempsons and the Centre of Law, Medicine and Life Sciences to fostering talent and supporting the legal professionals of tomorrow.

Matthew’s excellent paper tackled the question of how courts should be assessing the liability of failing to disclose alternative treatments. He explored the current models for assessing liability, identified in the case law and academic literature, and proposed a new ‘Montgomery-Bolam’ partnership model for liability assessment.

Congratulations Matthew on this well-deserved honour!
