On 12 September 2024, LML Senior Research Associate Isaac Weldon and LML Director Prof Kathy Liddell hosted the GLEAN (Gathering Lessons from Environmental Governance for Antimicrobial Resistance) Workshop at Gonville & Caius College. The workshop explored strategies from environmental governance that can be adapted and applied to improve antimicrobial resistance (AMR) governance, bringing together experts from the around the world on public policy, epidemiology, political science, psychology, international law, economics and ethics.
On the workshop, Isaac commented:
“We received incredibly valuable feedback and insightful critique throughout the workshop. I was particularly impressed by the number of thoughtful questions we generated together by the end of the day.
Looking ahead, with AMR gaining increasing attention on the international stage, last week’s workshop made clear that there is much more to be explored and discussed. While our background paper was only the starting point, the depth of feedback we received has given us a wealth of ideas to pursue.”
Prof Liddell also commented:
"It was truly inspiring to see experts from so many diverse fields put the work in workshop, diving deeply into the challenges of antimicrobial resistance and collaboratively exploring innovative solutions that can have real global impact."
The workshop was made possible from the generous support of the Collective Action Problems of Anti-Microbial Resistance grant (CAP-AMR), University of Cambridge, the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and the International Collaborative Bioscience Innovation & Law Programme (Inter-CeBIL)
