On Tuesday 8 December 2020, Dr Jeff Skopek (Deputy Director of LML) participated in Health and Artificial Intelligence: Law, Ethics and Society, an online webinar hosted by the Centre for Medical Ethics and Law at the University of Hong Kong.

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine and healthcare has become increasingly commonplace and ubiquitous. This 2-day webinar brought together experts from various stakeholder disciplines for an interdisciplinary discussion on the application and impact of AI in healthcare.

The first day of the webinar, "Ethical Considerations and Policy Development", considered how ethical concerns over the use of AI have impacted software developers and policymakers.
The second day of the webinar, "
Responsible AI and the Law", considered what responsible AI development could mean, and what role the law could have in ensuring this.

Dr Skopek's presentation, 'What Difference Does It Make? "Black Box" Medicine and the Law formed part of the programme for Day 2.
