The postholder will pursue research projects in two related areas. The first is an existing area of LML research on how civil liability should be assigned when a patient is harmed by a healthcare decision that involved the use of a machine learning system. The second is a new area that will be driven by the Research Associate on the goals of regulating machine learning in healthcare, focusing in particular on how to address potential conflicts between safety, efficacy, fairness, and transparency.
This position requires expertise in tort law, along with familiarity in moral and political philosophy, the philosophy of science or public policy.
A graduate degree (PhD, JD, or Masters) or equivalent work experience is also required. If the applicant holds an undergraduate degree in law, the graduate degree can be in any relevant discipline. If the applicant does not hold an undergraduate degree in law, the graduate degree must be in law.
