Today, the Faculty of Law’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) Committee launched its Diversifying the Law: Postgraduates in Profile exhibition. Funded by the University’s Diversity Fund, the aim of the project is to highlight and to encourage reflection on diversity and its relationship to the law—not only as academic subject matter or initiatives but also as the faces and experiences of members of the Faculty, particularly those members who belong to communities historically underrepresented in the legal discipline. The exhibition currently showcases the work of four PhD students, including Jinal Dadiya (LML Member). Her poster showcases her doctoral research on the consideration of fertility care as part of right to health.
The Faculty’s Schools Liaison Coordinator Simone Hanebaum is a member of the EDI Committee and organised the project. "With staff and students returning to the Faculty in greater numbers, we thought now was the perfect opportunity to invite the larger Faculty community and visitors to the David Williams Building to engage with and reflect on EDI matters, especially as the Faculty conscientiously works to imbed EDI into all of its operations," she said. "The exhibition in the atrium on the ground floor is one of the first things visitors to the Faculty will see and we hope it will cultivate thought, discussion, and a sense of community in the public heart of our building after spending two years apart."
Professor Mark Elliott, the Chair of the Faculty of Law, commented: "I am delighted that we are able to showcase our students’ work in this way. The exhibition celebrates the outstanding research that is carried out in the Faculty, the wide range of perspectives and approaches that our students bring to bear upon their work, and the diversity of our Faculty community. I am very grateful to the students whose work is featured in the exhibition and to our EDI Committee – and, in particular, to Simone Hanebaum – for bringing this valuable project to fruition."
The exhibition will run for the remainder of Easter term and into the summer vacation period.
