This summer, Marno Swart, a PhD student and member of LML taught the module Controversies in Medical Ethics and Law as part of the Downing College International Programme’s Law and HSPS stream, welcoming students aged 15–18 from around the world. Over six weeks, Marno guided three cohorts of students through some of the most pressing debates in medical law and ethics, including autonomy, reproductive rights, end-of-life decision-making, and public health.
Reflecting on the experience, Marno said:
“It was a real pleasure to revisit these well-known controversies in medical ethics and law with such bright and curious students. Their thoughtful discussions were shaped by their own experiences of the world, which brought fresh perspectives to familiar debates. Teaching on the programme was both enriching and thoroughly enjoyable.”
