LML is delighted to host Professor Erik Hahn as a Visiting Research Scholar. Professor Hahn, Professor of Health at the University of Applied Sciences in Zittau/Görlitz & the Technical University of Dresden, will use his time at LML to conduct a comparative study on telemedicine regulation in Germany and the UK. His research will explore how the countries’ different legal frameworks shape the delivery of digital healthcare and its accessibility for patients.
Prof. Hahn was drawn to the UK by the cross-border dynamics that have influenced telemedicine law in Germany. Until recently, telemedicine was effectively prohibited there, leading many patients to seek services from UK-based providers such as Dr Ed. Germany has since shifted course, introducing a detailed regulatory framework to govern digital healthcare. In contrast, the UK relies on more general health law instruments. Prof. Hahn is particularly interested in this divergence and looks forward to identifying lessons that can be drawn from comparing the two systems.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to conduct research on the legal framework for telemedicine in the UK as a visiting scholar at the LML. Recent developments in the German digital healthcare market have been strongly shaped by British telemedicine services. With its focus on topical issues in medical law, the LML provides an excellent environment for my research and for engaging in inspiring discussions with colleagues," Prof. Hahn said.
We warmly welcome Prof. Hahn to LML and look forward to his contributions to our research community.
