Faculty of Law

The Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences is pleased to announce that two members of our Management Committee are to be promoted in this year’s Senior Academic Promotions exercise. They will assume their new positions in October 2020.

Dr Kathy Liddell, Founding Director of LML and Herschel Smith Senior Lecturer of Intellectual Property Law, will be promoted to a Readership. Dr Liddell’s research focusses on the legal frameworks governing intellectual property and medicine, including areas of emerging technology. She has published extensively in these areas, often with research teams from LML and interdisciplinary colleagues. Dr Liddell’s teaching covers of a range of courses at Masters and undergraduate levels, such as Law, Medicine and Life Sciences, Intellectual Property Law, and Law and the Ethics of Medicine.

“To be recognised for this title at Cambridge is very special, and an achievement for which my family and I will be very proud. The recognition also belongs to LML, its research teams, collaborators and interdisciplinary colleagues, with whom I work closely. It is terrific to work with such a fantastic group of talented people.”

Dr Jeff Skopek, Deputy Director of LML, will be promoted to University Senior Lecturer. His research explores the normative and conceptual foundations of medical law, focusing in particular on controversies about the harms and benefits that are generated by medical treatment, health care systems, and biomedical research. His most recent publications have focused on various aspects of privacy, and he is currently working on the regulation of AI in healthcare. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on the law and ethics of medicine and the life sciences.
