On 30 March, Professor Kathy Liddell (LML Director), Professor Michael Hopkins (LML Senior Research Associate), and Professor Timo Minssen (LML Research Affiliate) took part in the conference “Sustainability of the EU Pharma and Healthcare Market” at Jagiellonian University in Kraków. The conference was convened by the Intellectual Property Chair, organised by Professor Justyna Ożegalska-Trybalska, a recent LML Visiting Scholar (February 2026), under the honorary patronage of the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland.
Professor Minssen delivered the keynote address, reflecting on trends shaping the European pharmaceutical landscape, including competitiveness, access, and health sovereignty. Professor Liddell chaired the opening panel on Shaping Sustainability of the EU’s Pharma and Healthcare Market. Professor Hopkins was one of the panellists sharing insights from his current research exploring the large family of policy tools for pharmaceutical innovation. Professor Hopkins is expanding this research with a PRISMA-grade literature review, supported by a LML research team (Natalie Kiilu, Laurence Childs, Prof Kathy Liddell).
Subsequent panels addressed access to medicines, intellectual property, and preparedness for public health crises, bringing together a wide range of academic, policy, and industry perspectives.
The conference offered a valuable opportunity for exchange across disciplines and jurisdictions. We are pleased to have contributed to these discussions and to continue building connections with partners across Europe.
