On 5 December 2020, Dr Kathy Liddell (Director of LML) gave a presentation on the University’s asymptomatic COVID-19 screening programme, which was offered to 16,000 students.
The seminar, organised and chaired by Dr Mark Lathrop (Director of the McGill Genome Centre), was part of a discussion group established to share experiences about public health and research issues associated with Covid-19 in different countries.
Previous presenters included Sharon Peacock and others from the COG UK effort, Nilesh Samani and Keith Channon on the joint British Heart Foundation/UK NIHR flagship initiatives in COVID-19 research, Moderna, Pasteur and others on their vaccine work, Canadian leadership of the national COVID-19 Immunity Task Force, Martin Landray on the RECOVERY trial, and others.
Dr Liddell’s presentation described the operation of the large-scale asymptomatic screening programme with a special emphasis on the legal and ethical issues that it raised. Further information about asymptomatic testing at the University of Cambridge can be found here.
